Indoctrination on track

This morning, a major nursery run breakthrough.I took Miss J in the car, with the usual variety of eye spy, who can see the lollipop man first, what shoes will he be wearing and which animals can you see in the farmer's field? These games usually take place with a musical soundtrack - recently we have been enjoying the delights of ‘The Frog Chorus’, aka ‘We All Stand Together’, which before you snigger and tediously say Paul McCartney is nowhere near as cool as John Lennon, I challenge you to read the words and not smile and feel better about the world.Anyway, back to this morning. I am delighted to report that Miss J's Liverpool and Irish cultural indoctrination is bearing fruit. We recently had been regaled with several renditions a day of 'Ireland's Call' and an increasingly strong north of Ireland twang -  which is endearing until you hear her shout "no, no, no"!We had just spotted several sheep - dad had been called upon for his best farmyard animal noises - my pig is particular good, although undoubtably over-hammed (if you pardon the pun) when the request came from the back; "Can we have The Beatles on please, daddy?". A special moment. Not only that, but a specific request; "daddy, I want the 1,2,3,4 song please". My heart fills with pride and the Fab Four are immediately located on the car's jukebox. For the uninitiated; I am afraid there are some, the song is 'All Together Now' from Yellow Submarine. It is a gentle ditty, written as a children's song, by Paul in 1967, released in 1969. It's a simple song, great for helping children who are learning to count. As with almost everything written by The Beatles, especially Paul, the theme is love, friendship and togetherness. Hard to think of better ideas to be discussing with a three-year-old, who is learning every day about relationships at nursery and at home. Hard for a scouser to think of a better request for a song in the car.I am doing the nursery run tomorrow; perhaps we will move our education and indoctrination programme up a notch; 'Revolver' next on the agenda. Just for the record, for the singgerers, here are the words to Mr McCartney's reptile and Rupert classic......a call to arms for love and togetherness - what is there not to like in these divisive times?
