Time to take a break from blogging
Today marks the end - the early end - of my year of daily blogging. I am also taking something of a social media sabbatical. It feels like time for a break. Time to step back. Time for a rest.Honesty is the best policy. I am feeling under pressure to write my blog every day and this pressure - entirely self-induced - is adding stress and anxiety to my life and so it has to go. I will continue to blog but more intermittently. I feel the same about social media. I will continue to look at stuff, perhaps to share stuff, but I feel like now is a good time to take a break from active use - certainly on Twitter and Facebook - and from sharing my views on all things from politics to LFC, Strictly to Irish sport and ranting at The Today Programme.I've not had a great week or so and so I need to step in. If I've learnt anything on my journey over recent years it's to try to spot when things are going wrong and take action before it is too late. In the spirit of the CBT work I did with my therapist, I have noticed something and am aware enough of it to intervene. This is a good thing. I am a little gutted not to complete the year - a goal I set myself - but proud of myself for putting my wellbeing ahead of my ego.So my year of daily blogging is over - it lasted seven months and 16 days; 229 days in total. Not quite the full 365 I aimed for but continuing to do it just to meet this target is daft. On the raw numbers, I paraphrase Kevin Keegan when he resigned as England manager in saying that "I am a little short at this level." On the experience of the daily blogs, it has been a blast.I hope our paths will cross again. In the meantime, merry Christmas! Slan abhaile.#ben2b40
