My gratitude list for 2024
As I look forward to the year ahead and set some goals, I always start by making a gratitude list for the outgoing year. Here is my 2024 list.
For Dr J and Miss J: my life is enhanced every minute of every day by having them in it.
For my dad’s peaceful death and the opportunity I had to pay tribute to his full life at his funeral - you can read this eulogy on my blog.
For joining Royal Birkdale Golf Club this year - it’s a dream come true. I’m still pinching myself.
For my daily home delivery New York Times subscription - the best newspaper and best writing in the world.
For the evening I spent at Wembley in June with Miss J seeing Taylor Swift - the joy on my daughter’s face will never leave me.
For feeling valued by clients - seeing them make progress that matters to them - and the appreciation and support from colleagues at schools in which I provide counselling.
For the kindness and support shown to me on social media, especially in difficult moments during the year.
For the positive feedback I’ve had on my openness about my own mental health on my blog and on social media.
For the time I spent writing - including on my blog and launching my new AMJ Counselling newsletter.
For the audiobooks and podcasts I’ve heard in 2024 - especially from the New York Times, The News Agents and The Rest Is Politics: US.
For the time we spent in Ireland - including walking on Rathmullan beach.
For the focus I’ve placed on my mental health and wellbeing - listening to my own needs (as an introvert) and trying to have them met every day.
For my ongoing sobriety - six years, three months, eighteen days and counting.
